FAFSA INFO!

Students who will be attending Stevens next year:

It is that time of year again to complete the FAFSA. The Office of Financial Aid is providing assistance in completing the FAFSA process for 2016-2017. It is important to complete the FAFSA no later than May 1st to be eligible for all types of financial aid. Complete all of your financial aid steps before you leave for the summer break with our assistance! Open lab hours to complete the FAFSA will be held in Hartzell 107 on Tuesday and Thursday's from 9:00-11:00am and Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00am. If these times do not work you may stop by or email our office to schedule a time that is convenient to your schedule. You will need to bring your and your parent's 2015 tax return and W2's. We will also need your and your parents FSA ID. You can obtain this online at fsa.ed.gov or we can assist you during the completion of the FAFSA. If you have already completed the FAFSA for next year, we will begin to process that information in a few weeks.

All,
A good friend of mine is on the Board for Kids’ Chance of Pennsylvania.  This organization helps students who have financial need and had a parent who was killed or seriously injured in a work-related accident.  This year they awarded 56 scholarships totaling $184,000. I am trying to identify any students that may qualify to apply for this scholarship.  If you are aware of any students who had a parent killed or seriously injured in a work-related accident, please let me know.

The 2016 scholarship contest is now open. Deadline: Dec. 16, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. ET Requirements: Here are the text requirements Minimum 800 words Maximum 2,000 Awards: Five winners will be selected Top prize $5,000 Second through fifth place will receive $1,000 each 2016 ESSAY TOPIC: You've likely heard the famous quote before, "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it." The United States housing market can be unpredictable, volatile and cyclical. We've seen recent "ups" like the early 2000s and major "downs" like the Savings & Loan Crisis of the late 1980s and the devastating Foreclosure Crisis several years ago. Knowing what we now know, what measure(s) would you suggest (or what protections would you put in place) to prevent another housing disaster that would preserve homeownership and ultimately the national economy? Consider all levels of the market, including consumer (home buyers / sellers / owners), lenders (banks) and government (policies / bills / programs) as you map out an original, forward-thinking plan to avoid (at the very least minimize) mistakes from the past. Or, conversely, is another housing disaster simply inevitable? Provide factual evidence (references are strongly encouraged) to support your original plan / argument. ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Foreclosure.com has issued $54,000 in scholarship money to 30 college students nationwide since the program was introduced in 2009. Each year, the company challenges future leaders of America to provide creative solutions/ideas to many of the nation's most critical issues, real estate in particular, which can be used to help foster a robust United States housing market. FORECLOSURE.COM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AT A GLANCE: Foreclosure.com continues to break new ground by offering a nationwide scholarship program. Currently enrolled college students (graduate students, law students and/or high school seniors are NOT eligible) are invited to apply by submitting an essay. Freshman entering Fall 2016 are eligible once they have received a student ID number. Plagiarism is strictly forbidden. Essays that are not the original work of the entrant will be immediately discarded and eliminated from consideration. Follow us on Twitter at @foreclosure, and let us know how we're doing. We wish all the applying 2016 students luck. Thanks for posting our contest on your Scholarships page! Best regards, Brad Geisen President, Foreclosure.com
